This tulip named “d’ Admirael Coornhardt” is named after Dirck Volckertszoon Coornhert (also Coornhard and Coornhardt) a prominent figure from Dutch history.
Dirck Volckertszoon Coornhert was a remarkable and versatile personality of the 16th century – a humanist, writer, philosopher, and artist.
He was known for his involvement in numerous areas, from theology and politics to linguistics and numismatics.
Coornhardt advocated for religious tolerance and freedom of conscience, which played a crucial role in the Dutch Revolt (the Eighty Years’ War). But Coornhert was also a recognized artist. His talent as an engraver and printmaker is admired to this day, and his works encompassed a wide range of subjects, from biblical scenes to detailed portraits.
In creating the NFTs of the ‘Coornhardt’ tulip, in several art styles, we have chosen the theme ‘deer’. This theme is not only a nod to the surname of Dirck Volckertszoon Coornhert but also symbolizes his agility and resilience – just like a deer gracefully navigating through the forest, Coornhert adeptly maneuvered through the challenges of his time.
The portrait of the “d’ Admirael Coornhardt” serves as inspiration for the ‘Coornhardt tulip’ NFTs.
