No 62. Latour

The next tulip in our series is the well-known “Latour”.

This tulip, with its distinctive appearance and unique purple-yellow coloring, is featured in various tulip books from the 17th century, confirming its popularity at that time.

Although the name ‘Latour’ has a clear French origin, unfortunately, our research has not provided clear information about the namesake or the specific meaning of this name in relation to the tulip. Nevertheless, we choose to draw a connection to a famous piece of French heritage, Château Latour.

Château Latour is one of the most renowned wineries in the world, located in the Bordeaux region. This winery is classified as Premier Grand Cru Classé, the highest classification for wines from Bordeaux. It is synonymous with quality and refinement, just like our ‘Latour’ tulip.

The portrait of the “Latour” from the physical collection, serves as the model for the corresponding NFT collections. The 99 ‘Latour’ NFT tulips are themed ‘wine’, inspired by the magnificent Château Latour and the rich wine traditions of France.
