No 71. Coorenaert

The “Coorenaert” is one of seven tulips in the collection based on images from the Tulip Book of P.Cos.

The Tulip Book of P.Cos features vivid, almost illustrative images of tulips from the era of the Tulipmania.

Some of these tulips are not explicitly named but are symbolically depicted in the image based on the meaning of the name. ‘Coorenaert’, a term from Old Dutch, refers to a ‘spike’, the upper part of a grain stalk where the grains are located. Although the precise origin of the name remains unclear, it may be a reference to Demeter, the Greek goddess of the harvest, who is often depicted with a spike.

Therefore, the name ‘coorenaert’ may have a connection to ancient harvest symbolism.

The portrait of the “Coorenaert” from the physical collection, serves as the inspiration for the corresponding 99 ‘Coorenaert’ NFT tulips. The NFT tulips explore the theme of ‘harvest’.
