No 98. Admirael Verijck

The third variant in our selection, ‘Admirael van der Eyck’ tulips, comes from the famous tulip book of P. Cos.

The ‘Verijck”, “van der Eyck” or “van Eijck” tulips were regarded as ‘perfect beauties’ during the Tulipmania.

The tulip book of Pieter Cos is a fascinating part of the history of the Tulipmania. The “Tulip book of P. Cos” is not a printed book as we know it, but a unique handmade collection of hand-painted tulips.

The hand-painted tulips are a beautiful example of the art produced during the Tulipmania, with detailed and colorful depictions of the tulips of that time. It was created by an unknown artist, commissioned by the wealthy owner, Mr. Pieter Cos. The book has stood the test of time well and is in the possession of Wageningen University in the Netherlands.

For the “Admirael Verijck”, the theme of the 99 NFT tulips in various art styles is ‘Oak tree and oak leafs’, a subtle nod to the name of the grower and its association with the oak. The portrait of the “Admirael van de Eijck” from the ‘Ninetynine Tulips’ collection, serves as inspiration for the tulip NFTs.
