Root en Geel van Leijden

The name says it all: this tulip is striped red and yellow, of which there were a dozen other variants at the time of the tulip fever. Apparently this variant came from Leiden.

The Root and Geel van Leijden belonged to the more durable tulip varieties from the 17th century. The tulip was still cultivated until the end of the 19th century, but nowadays this variety is extinct.
