The origin of the name of this tulip is unknown. This late-flowering tulip heralded summer, as it were.
It was one of the beloved tulips of the tulip fever. It is one of the few tulip varieties from the 17th century that still exists. Summer Beauty is still grown in the Hortus Bulborum in Limmen.
