The Artist

Marcel van Baaren, born in the Netherlands, started painting early in life. While working as an IT consultant he decided to make his works known to the public. His talent and passion for art quickly became apparent, and he is now an acclaimed artist with several successful expositions under his belt.

Van Baaren’s current project is a series of ninetynine paintings depicting tulips from the time of Tulipmania. The portraits are based on illustrations from 17th century tulip books.
Van Baaren’s fascination with tulips started during a Turkish-Dutch art project.

“I then realized how much the tulip is connected to national identities, culture, history, symbolism, economics and joy; the tulip has a fascinating story. I dare to say that the tulip is one of the most successful flowers in human-floral relations.”

When creating art, van Baaren works with historical techniques, such as tempera. He believes that using traditional techniques not only connects him to the history of art, but also allows him to create art that is truly unique. His attention to detail and use of vibrant colors make his paintings stand out.

Van Baaren’s work has been praised for its beauty, depth, and historical significance. He continues to create art while balancing his career as an IT consultant, proving that it’s never too late to pursue your passion.
