The First Minted Series from Ninetynine Tulips
Tulips in Amsterdam was the very first NFT series from the Ninetynine Tulips collection to be minted. The idea for a larger digital collection emerged while the physical tulip paintings were on display at Museum De Zwarte Tulp (2023). At the same time, ChatGPT and Midjourney had just launched — offering exciting new tools for artists who, like me, switch easily between brush and mouse.
Although the initial NFT hype was starting to calm down, I saw tremendous artistic potential. I’ve always loved tulips, and transforming the physical collection into 99 digital series — each inspired by the original artworks — felt like a natural and inspiring next step.
This first series was an obvious choice: tulips and Amsterdam simply belong together. There’s the world-famous song Tulips from Amsterdam — but I chose a different angle. This series is called Tulips in Amsterdam, because that’s what it is: tulips set in the heart of the city, living their story in that urban scenery.
The process was also a period of experimentation. I explored what was possible with Midjourney — combining each tulip’s name and theme with various styles, moods, and settings. Not every combination worked out, but that was part of the creative joy: trial, error, and surprising outcomes.
Each NFT in this series reflects the tulip’s name, its number in the original collection, and a unique atmosphere — always against the backdrop of Amsterdam.

I personally love this series. In the future, I plan to use the imagery for a card game. In the meantime, postcards made from the NFTs are used as promotional material.
